Substd. trifluorooxetans of formula (I) [or (II) are prepd. by reacting perfluoro ether (III) with para-formaldehyde in the presence of HF. Rf=C3-4 perfluoroalkyl; n=0 or 1. The mole ratio of perfluoro ether (III) to para-formaldehyde is 1:0.5-3. The rxn. temp. is 50-150≦̸C. The rxn. such as putting perfluoro(propyl vinyl ether), paraformaldehyde and HF into autoclave(stainless steel), stirring for 24hr at 50≦̸C, stirring after pouring into ice water, separate by liq- liq. extn. and isoln..
