PURPOSE:To attain an easy adjustment without a measuring instrument by permitting a control means to operate the output of an A/D conversion means, which is outputted in accordance with an adjustment item inputted from an operation means, and displaying the arithmetic result on a register display means. CONSTITUTION:When the power source of a reader main body is turned on to input the prescribed code number through a ten-key on a console panel 6, a main control part 100 is set in an adjustment mode. Then a color CCD 25a is designated by pressing a density designation key on the console panel 6, and therefore the adjustment of an off set voltage in an amplifier 26a corresponding to the color CCD 25a starts. Next a white reference plate is scaned with a light source 23 put out, and a reference signal is read and supplied to the main control part 100 through a switch 27, an A/D conversion part 108, a shading correction circuit 102. Based on the signal, the main control part 100 calculates the mean of data on picture elements, and displays the mean on the register display 44 on the console panel 6.
