PURPOSE: An engine cooling device and a method for controlling a gap between a shroud and a shroud fan are provided to guarantee efficient cooling performance by controlling a gap between a fan and a shroud. CONSTITUTION: An engine cooling device includes an engine(10), a cooling fan(20), a radiator(40), a shroud(50), and a fan space control device(60). The cooling fan includes a blade(21) rotating by power supplied from the engine. The radiator is correspondently installed to the cooling fan. The shroud is placed between the cooling fan and the radiator. One end of the shroud is fixed to the radiator. The other end of the shroud accommodates the blade of the cooling fan. The fan space control device is installed in the shroud and controls a gap between the peripheral end of the blade and the shroud. The shroud includes a shroud body(51) and a blade(52).
