The invention relates to a method for producing a frame element consisting of interconnected hollow profiles. According to the invention, the connection of two beams (3a, 6a) situated at right angles to one another is to be simplified and the production of the receiving holes for a connecting element is to be carried out in a dimensionally accurate manner. For this purpose, a punching device (40) is fixed on the beams (3a, 6a) in the appropriate position in the connection region. Thereafter, a punch (44, 45) is pressed through the wall webs (31, 32) to be perforated. To fix the punching device (40) on the beams, it has an adjustable clamping strip (48) and at least one adjusting device (54).
