A solenoid operated payout unit for a coin mechanism comprising a solenoid 3 mounted on a sheet metal frame 5 including a step up portion 7 which provides a platform adapted to support a stack of coins thereon. The solenoid 1 has a plunger 4 connected to a coin dispensing finger 14. A payout head is attached to the frame 4 and includes a circular opening 12 through which a stack of coins is fed to the payout finger 14. The payout finger 14 is connected to the plunger 4 of the solenoid 1, on the operation of which, the plunger is withdrawn into the solenoid. The plunger 4 is returned to its rest position under the action of a spring 19 acting between the solenoid 1 and the collar 16. <IMAGE>
