PURPOSE: A decolorizing method of cellulose or a derivative thereof is provided to obtain white color for a refined cellulose product without using a large-sized ozone generator. CONSTITUTION: A decolorizing method of cellulose or a derivative thereof comprises: a step of hydrolyzing the cellulose or the derivative thereof by putting hydrogen chloride gas and the cellulose or derivative thereof into a close type reactor; a step of de-aerating the close type reactor; and a decolorizing step of adding and mixing 0.05-2 parts by weight of ozone into the 100.0 parts by weight of the cellulose or the derivative thereof based on the weight of the cellulose or the cellulose derivative before hydrolysis.
