摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that can accurately estimate the condition of a road surface during travel using unsprung acceleration and wheel speed data, and to provide a device therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The unsprung longitudinal acceleration G<SB POS="POST">x</SB>is detected by an acceleration sensor 11 attached to a knuckle 21 that is a vehicle unsprung component, and the wheel speed V<SB POS="POST">w</SB>is detected to calculate the amount of change &Delta;V<SB POS="POST">w</SB>in wheel speed V<SB POS="POST">w</SB>. Thereafter, the fluctuation range &sigma;(&Delta;V<SB POS="POST">w</SB>) of the amount of change in wheel speed and the fluctuation range &sigma;(G<SB POS="POST">x</SB>) of the unsprung longitudinal acceleration are calculated. An estimation of whether the road surface is a relatively rough road surface or a smooth road surface is made on the basis of the relationship between the fluctuation range &sigma;(&Delta;V<SB POS="POST">w</SB>) of the amount of change in wheel speed and the fluctuation range &sigma;(G<SB POS="POST">x</SB>) of the unsprung longitudinal acceleration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
