<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting unit that can easily form emitting surfaces of respective light guide plates on the same plane when lining up a plurality of the plates, and improving its appearance. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting unit includes a light source 20, and the light guide plates 2 each having a light receiving part 7 for receiving light from the light source 20 at an end 5, and an emitting surface 4 for emitting the received light. The light source 20 is arranged in opposition to a primary surface 3b of the light guide plate 2. The light guide plate 2 has a tapered shape, and the end 5 has a reflecting surface 8 for reflecting light incident inside the light guide plate 2 and from the light receiving part 7 to the other end 6 side, and a connecting surface 9 that can come in contact with the other end of the light guide plate of the other neighboring lighting unit. The reflecting surface 8 is adjacent to the primary surface 3b, and extends to the other end 6 from an end edge of the primary surface 3b to an emitting surface 4 side. The connecting surface 9 is adjacent to the reflecting surface 8 and the emitting surface 4, and is formed in an approximately vertical state against the emitting surface 4.
