<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat position adjustment device for an automobile, that enlarges the loading space of a baggage compartment in the posterior part of rear seats and the under-foot spaces of boarding persons in the rear seats and also secures a backward visual field by displacing the lower ends of seat backs downward when inclined backward and holding the seat backs in a nearly erected state at the position when the seat backs of the rear seats are nearly erected, thereby restricting the height of the seat backs when the seat backs are erected. <P>SOLUTION: Each rear seat 22 includes a seat cushion 22C and the seat back 22B which are supported by vehicle side members. Support means for supporting the seat back 22B to the vehicle side members include: angle adjustment mechanisms L1, L2 for permitting an inclination angle change between a first position where the seat back 22B is inclined backward and a second position of an almost erected state; and holding mechanisms P1, P2, 39, 41 for holding the seat back 22B at respective positions.
