<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for hybrid vehicle, which reduces shock when a clutch is released. <P>SOLUTION: In releasing a clutch, required torque is obtained by either smaller one of the torque capacity of the clutch and output torque of an engine, and the output torque of a motor. Therefore, even when the engine torque is smaller than the clutch torque capacity, transmission torque equivalent to the engine torque is compensated by the output torque of the motor.
