PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress line width of a laser optical spectrum of a semiconductor laser element.

SOLUTION: A semiconductor optical element includes: a plurality of laser elements; a light merging unit which is connected to the plurality of laser elements via a waveguide and merges laser light beams which the plurality of laser elements output; a semiconductor optical amplifier amplifying the laser light beams outputted from the light merging unit; and a plurality of wavelength selection filters formed on routes between the plurality of laser elements and the light merging unit on the same substrate as the light merging unit and the semiconductor optical amplifier.
