PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device and an image processing method allowing an operator to recognize a positional relation in a stereoscopic image.

SOLUTION: In an image processing system of an embodiment, an image processing device of the embodiment includes a reception unit, a planar image generation unit, and an output unit. The reception unit receives setting of an area of interest in a stereoscopic image of a subject which is stereoscopically displayed. The planar image generation unit creates a planar image of a cross section of the subject obtained by cutting the subject on a plane corresponding to the area of interest received by the reception unit, on the basis of volume data on the subject stored in a predetermined storage device. The output unit outputs the planar image generated by the planar image generation unit.
