<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suck even a small medium when sucking and conveying the medium. <P>SOLUTION: A medium feeder (U2) includes: a holding member (22) for sucking and holding the medium (S), the holding member (22) having a holding member body (23) arranged facing a loading member (11) where the medium (S) is loaded, and supported movably along the conveying direction of the medium, an opening (31) for gas suction formed on the holding member body (23), and a surrounding member arranged so as to surround the opening (31); and a shut-off means (62) for shutting off suction of a gas from the opening (31b) for the gas suction arranged more on the inner side than the end of the surrounding member (36) and more on the outer side than the end side of the medium (S), when the length of the medium (S) is shorter than the length of the surrounding member (36) in at least one of the conveying direction of the medium (S) and a width direction crossing the conveying direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
