One of the most difficult problems of word processing is the production of correct texts to be stored or printed. The development of typewriters with electronic and/or magnetic memories has contributed to the solution of this problem to the extent that the operator of the machine only has to replace the wrong words, whereas the rest of the text is automatically and quickly printed or stored. Also, machines which compare each word which is entered via the keyboard with the content of a dictionary memory are already known. The operator is made aware of each wrongly written word by an acoustic signal. The object of the invention is to create a method of displaying wrong spellings of words and texts on a display of a word processing office machine, so that the operator can correct a wrong word simply, quickly and reliably. The way this object is achieved is that the suggested correction or the explanation of each wrongly reproduced word is automatically displayed in a line directly below it, in the following line, and that if the suggested correction is accepted by activating a first special key, the correction is displayed on the screen.
