<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical oscillator which can generate a desired pulse light frequency easily with a simple configuration, and to provide a recording device. <P>SOLUTION: An optical oscillator comprises a supersaturation absorber having a double quantum well separation confinement heterostructure and applying a negative bias voltage, a self-oscillation semiconductor laser 1 including a gain section for injecting a gain current, and a control unit 38 which controls a gain current being injected into the gain section of the self-oscillation semiconductor laser or the negative bias voltage being applied to the supersaturation absorber, based on the phase difference between a master clock signal and the oscillation light emitted from the self-oscillation semiconductor laser 1 and a signal generation section which injects a gain current corresponding to a predetermined current signal into the gain section of the self-oscillation semiconductor laser 1, by generating a predetermined current signal in accordance with the timing of the master clock signal.
