<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce glaring caused by light emitted from a light source and to reduce variation in illumination of the light source on a document surface. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus comprises: an LED 1 for irradiating a document with light; a CCD 2 which comprises a monochrome line sensor for reading the document monochromatically and plural color line sensors for reading the document chromatically and reads the document by converting the light reflected by the document to an electric signal; and a mode switch part 91 which, when detecting the document size along a main scanning direction, switches a reading mode indicating which of the monochrome line sensor and the color line sensor to use to read the document, to a monochrome mode to use the monochrome line sensor to read the document. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
