<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil which rotates a lead holder 18 by reciprocating a slide member 3 in a longitudinal direction to a holding member 1 by a writing pressure, constitutes a lead 19 and a chuck 5 to be unrotatable by rotating the lead holder 18, and selects the slide member 3 in such a way that its move in the longitudinal direction to the holding member 1 is disabled by operating a lock mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: A connection member 9 to receive a fastening 6 pressurized by the chuck 5 is constituted to be rotatable to the slide member 3, and the holding member 1 is constituted to be arbitrarily movable in the longitudinal direction to the slide member 3. In addition, a lock mechanism is provided that can be selected to enable or disable the movement of the holding member 1 in the longitudinal direction to the slide member 3. A rotation mechanism is constituted so as to rotate the lead holder 18 stepwise at a predetermined angle by reciprocating a sliding member 15 in the longitudinal direction to the slide member 3.
