<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation input device for achieving miniaturization while securing operability and a method of controlling the operation input device. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is an operation input device including: an operation part 11; detection parts (sensor 14A to 14D and detection circuit 97) for detecting the pushing of the operation part 11; and a control part (control circuit 98) for moving an object 3 on a screen in a direction corresponding to the position of pushing detected by the detection part. The operation input device is characterized in that the moving speed of the object 3 is changed in according with the pushing speed of the operation part 11 by the control part. Disclosed is a control method of the operation input device including: detecting the pushing of the operation part 11; and moving the object 3 on the screen in the direction corresponding the position of the detected pushing.
