<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid resol-type biomass phenolic resin having a high plant-derivation rate and capable of providing a rubber composition with good kneadability which can give a vulcanizate excellent in hardness, rupture strength and breaking elongation, and further to provide a rubber composition capable of providing a vulcanizate excellent in hardness, rupture strength and breaking elongation. <P>SOLUTION: The solid resol type biomass phenolic resin has a plant origin rate of 30 mass% or more and a weight average molecular weight of 10,000 or more.
