[Class 12 (i)] A device to prevent overheating of the bearing 5 of the shaft 2 of an electric brake or other apparatus involving transmission of heat from one side of the bearing to the other side along the shaft, comprises a sleeve 7 formed of metal which is a good conductor of heat, interposed between the shaft 2 and inner bearing race 6, and extending on both sides of the race 6, so as to receive heat on one side and dissipate it on the other side, thus forming a thermal byepass for the bearing. A disc 8 having radial blades 10 may be secured to the member 7, thus constituting a fan which blows cooling air through the casing as indicated by the arrows. A rigid steel lining 9 may be utilized as an additional support for the bearing. A layer of insulating material, not shown, may be inserted between the inner bearing race 6 and the sleeve 7. |
