<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion apparatus, which can secure a current path by shorting the output of the unit converter, thereby enabling operation to continue, without a mechanism to control a thyristor or a switch, etc., even when an IGBT on the upper side of an MMC unit converter breaks down. <P>SOLUTION: A power conversion apparatus has a pres pack element having at least a three-layer structure of a PMP disposed between the output terminals of an MMC unit converter. The reverse breakdown voltage of the pres pack element is higher than the voltage withstanding of an IGBT connected in parallel to the unit converter and lower than the voltage withstanding of a DC capacitor constituting the unit converter. Since a mechanism to control a thyristor or a switch, etc. is unnecessary, the power conversion apparatus can be downsized and simplified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
