<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater with high usability which is capable of preventing the temperature of hot water in a bathtub from decreasing by recovering heat from the hot water in the bath tub during an automatic bath operation. <P>SOLUTION: The water heater includes a hot water storage tank 1, a bathtub 3, a heat exchanger 4 which transfers heat between hot water in the hot water storage tank 1 and hot water in the bathtub 3 and a control means 18, and also provides an automatic bath operation mode where operations from filling hot water in the bathtub 3 to keeping a prescribed temperature of the bathtub 3 are all performed automatically and a heat recovery operation mode where heat recovery is performed from hot water in the bathtub 3 to hot water in the hot water storage tank 1 by means of the heat exchanger 4.
