The furnace has a metal casing containing inner walling (7,8) and a cover (9) made of ceramic fibre material and held by ceramic support rods (11). The rods may be tubes. The insulating carrier for the heating coil (13) consists of ceramic tubes or rods.At least some of the supports (11) are also holders for the insulating carrier for the heating coil. The supports pass through the fibrous material of the walls perpendicularly and/or horizontally. The supports pass through the fibrous material of the cover horizontally.The walls and cover are mats of ceramic fibre material
