The self-pumping hydro-pneumatic spring strut (1) comprises a working cylinder (2) in which a piston rod (14) having a working piston (13) is arranged slidably, and a hydro-pneumatic damper (3) arranged in the working cylinder for damping the movement of piston rod. A mechanical damper is arranged in a step-shaped groove (12) formed in the wall of working cylinder, to provide at least two different damping levels. The groove is arranged in the central area of working cylinder. An additional spring (16) is arranged in the inner and/or outer region of working cylinder.
