<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which uses a liquid crystal display element for performing liquid crystal display by lower applied voltage compared with conventional ones and which can reduce costs, including the cost of a drive circuit, and to provide an adjustment method of the image display device. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device has a liquid crystal display element in which a liquid crystal molecule changes into an initial orientation of the liquid crystal molecule, formed when no voltage or low voltage is applied, a final orientation of the liquid crystal molecule, formed when maximum voltage is applied, and an intermediate orientation of the liquid crystal molecule, formed when intermediate voltage, lower than the maximum voltage and higher than the low voltage, is applied. The image display device includes phase compensation means for giving retardation in order to perform black display or white display, to the retardation of the liquid crystal molecule, at the intermediate orientation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
