<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device capable of performing tracking control operation in a one beam system. <P>SOLUTION: An optical pickup device includes an optical element that guides a laser beam generated and emitted from a laser diode 1 in a direction of an objective lens 7 for collection on a signal recording layer L provided on an optical disk D and guides return light reflected from the signal recording layer L provided on the optical disk D in a direction of a photodetector 10.
