<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for verifying communication line reliability in firmware update using communication via electric contacts. <P>SOLUTION: In a step T01, a device transmits/receives test data in block unit. In a step T02, at the same time that the device transmits test data, the device detects whether the test data includes an error. When it is determined that the test data includes an error in the step T02, the process proceeds to a step T03. In the step T03, the device determines that a communication line is normal when the error is smaller than a predetermined rate.
