<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve device which can change phases of a plurality of air intake valves at an advanced side and a retarded side by using one actuator. <P>SOLUTION: In the variable valve device 11 comprising the plurality of air intake valves 15, 16, a switching mechanism 80 is embedded in an actuator 13. In a first phase variable mode, first and second driven-side rotating bodies 71, 72 are connected to each other via the switching member 81, and thus, a first cam 25 and a second cam 26 can move to the advanced side. In a second phase variable mode, a drive-side rotating body 70 and the first driven-side rotating body 71 are connected to each other via the switching member 81, and thus, only the second cam 26 can move to the retarded side. A sensor target 37 is arranged at only the second driven-side rotating body 72 out of the first and second driven-side rotating bodies 71, 72.
