A shipping base (10, 60) shaped like a square, truncated pyramid for use with a washing machine (52) of the type having an undercarriage suspended below the wash tub. The shipping base (10, 60) has an opening (22, 95) in the top of the truncated pyramid into which the washing machine undercarriage (50) is lowered until the undercarriage (50) is suspended within the space defined by base (10, 60), and an integrally formed frame-like pallet for supporting the washing machine. The opening (22, 95) is only slightly larger than the dimensions of the undercarriage so that the shipping base (10, 60) prevents any significant lateral movement of the undercarriage (50) or the washing machine tub. |
