<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copying machine capable of shortening a time for copy-processing an image based on image data obtained by reading a document in a longitudinal direction with a line sensor when a recording sheet is arranged and fed in a horizontal direction so as to match a longitudinal direction of the recording sheet and a main scanning direction for printing. <P>SOLUTION: A copying machine controls a reading unit for reading a document with a second resolution (R2) smaller than a first resolution (R1), which is set by a user, by moving a line sensor at a second velocity (V2) faster than a first velocity (V1), which is set by the user, when a horizontal direction (LEF), in which a longitudinal direction of a recording sheet and a main scanning direction for printing match, is selected (Yes at S104) as a direction of the recording sheet (S106).
