<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell that prevents strain of a membrane electrode assembly so as to prevent a degradation in generation performance and airtightness with long-term use, and to provide the membrane electrode assembly. <P>SOLUTION: A membrane electrode assembly 10 includes a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 15, and diffusion electrodes 16 and 17 provided on both sides thereof. A fuel battery cell 13 is formed by sandwiching the membrane electrode assembly 10 between a first separator 11 and a second separator 12. A plurality of laminated fuel battery cells 13 are fastened and fixed together through end plates 14 provided on both ends thereof. Each of gas diffusion layers 18 and 19 has porous metal members 30 arranged evenly spaced apart at respective contact portions thereof with the first and the second separators 11 and 12. In the gas diffusion layer 19 on the cathode side, additional porous metal members 30 are arranged at portions on which seal members 25a impose pressure-contact load. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
