Shaped articles for parenteral administration of somatotropin (I) to an animal contain a lubricant, are binder- and matrix-free and have at least one uncoated surface. (I) is pref. microbially expressed bovine somatotropin, esp. MBS or ala-valBST, or microbially expressed porcine somatotropin, esp. APS, copper-associated porcine somatotropin, or a dry blend of a copper salt and a porcine somatotropin. The Cu content is pref. 0.1-3%. The lubricant is pref. a palmitate or stearate. (I) is a growth enhancer and improves feed efficiency, milk prodn. and fat-to-lean ratio when administered to animals.
