A light source unit (110) emits a linear polarization laser light of a prescribed wavelength. A wavelength plate (121) causes laser light emitted by the light source unit (110) to pass therethrough and the slow axis direction is adjusted to approximately 0° relative to the polarization direction (101) of the laser light. A liquid crystal cell (123) causes the laser light that has passed through the wavelength plate (121) to pass therethrough and causes the polarization direction (101) of the laser light that is caused to pass therethrough to rotate by a switchable rotation amount. The wavelength plate (125) causes laser light that has passed through the liquid crystal cell (123) to pass therethrough and the slow axis direction is adjusted to approximately 0° relative to the polarization direction (101) of the laser light.
