<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical device capable of preventing degradation of frequency characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical device, an optical branching filter 2, a Mach-Zehnder optical modulators 3 and 4, and an optical multiplexer 5 are disposed on an n-type InP substrate 1. The optical branching filter 2 demultiplexes input light into first and second input light. The Mach-Zehnder optical modulators 3 and 4 modulate the first and second input light, respectively. The optical multiplexer 5 multiplexes light modulated by the Mach-Zehnder optical modulators 3 and 4. Phase modulation electrodes 8a and 8b of the Mach-Zehnder optical modulator 3 and phase modulation electrodes 14a and 14b of the Mach-Zehnder optical modulator 4 are not overlapped with one another as viewed from a direction perpendicular to an extension direction of optical waveguides 6a, 6b, 12a and 12b of the Mach-Zehnder optical modulators 3 and 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
