<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating basis weight measuring device and a coating basis weight measuring method for measuring the basis weight of a coating layer without stopping a production line. <P>SOLUTION: A coating basis weight measuring device 10 measuring the basis weight of a coating layer 2 formed on a metal foil 1 includes: sample cut-out means 12 for cutting out a predetermined part from the metal foil 1 conveyed; and mass measuring means 13 for measuring the mass of the predetermined part. When the coating later 2 is formed on both sides of the metal foil 1, after coating the surface of the metal foil 1 with a coating agent and drying it, and after coating a back surface of the dried metal foil 1 with the coating agent and drying it, a coated area portion of the metal foil 1 and a portion including a boundary between the coated area and an uncoated area of the metal foil 1 are cut out by the sample cut-out means 12, from the conveyed metal foil 1. The mass of them are measured by the mass measuring means 13.
