摘要 <p>[Problem] To ensure that the balance of supply and demand in an electric power system can be efficiently adjusted even when numerous distributed power supplies are connected in the electric power system. [Solution] A superconductor (3) maintained in a superconducting state is interposed between power transmission wires (2) and power is transmitted thereto, at least a portion of the superconductor (3) is phase-transitioned to a normal conduction state, and excess electric power occurring in the electric power system is consumed in the portion that is in the normal conduction state. The balance of supply and demand in the electric power system is thereby adjusted. Specifically, a superconductor (3) maintained in as superconducting state by immersion in a cooling medium (4) is interposed between power transmission wires (2) and power is transmitted thereto, and by exposing a volume of the superconductor (3) corresponding to the amount of excess electric power to the environment outside the cooling medium, the volume is phase-transitioned to the normal conduction state, the excess electric power is consumed in that volume, and the balance of supply and demand in the electric power system is thereby adjusted. A Y (yttrium)-based high-temperature superconductor, for example, is used as the superconductor (3).</p>
