The method involves continuously conveying steel band provided at a side with anti-corrosive coating, and profiling a steel band to a slotted tube (3) with a longitudinal slot (4). The longitudinal slot is formed between two opposite band edges. Sections of the band edges are heated to weld together, where the sections limit the longitudinal slot. A contact pressure is applied on the heated band edges such that the band edges are welded together under formation of a weld seam (6). A steel pipe (1) is cooled in a cooling line with a coolant.
