The method involves determining need for electromotive torque compensation from comparison of actual value with reference value. The compensation of influences of steerable vehicle wheel transmitted torque is performed for relevant vehicleoperating points. A threshold difference of measured actual steering torque from target steering torque is obtained to compensate vehicle instability. An electronic control unit is used for providing additional steering torque of specific amount to electric motor, if actual steering torque is different from the target steering torque.
