The device has a light source (2) i.e. laser light source, irradiating a light beam (4) into a polyhedral measuring chamber (6) e.g. cylinder or polyhedron. A light sensor (10) measures intensity of light emerged from the measuring chamber. An evaluation unit (12) determines particle concentration in an aerosol from the intensity measured of the light sensor. The measuring chamber includes reflecting surfaces that reflect the irradiated light beam, where the reflecting surfaces are arranged in the form of polygon with eight sides, ellipse or circle. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring particle concentration in an aerosol.
