<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device capable of being simply formed and realizing a liquid crystal display device with a small color shift. <P>SOLUTION: A first to a fourth azimuth angle in a plane orthogonal to a first direction toward a light deflection layer 16 from a surface emitting part 15 are 0°, 45°, 90° and 135°, respectively, to a second direction toward a light guide plate 12 from a light source 13. When measuring luminance of light emitted from a light emitting surface at a constant distance from a measuring object point on the light emitting surface in viewing angle ranges of -40° to +40°, -60° to -74°, and +60° to +74° with respect to the first direction, all luminance in viewing angle range of -40° to +40° in all of the first to the fourth azimuth angle is 40% or less with respect to the maximum luminance in a viewing angle range of -60° to -74° and +60°to +74° in all of the first to the fourth azimuth angle.
