<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell stack that, with a simple and compact configuration, ensures desired clamp loads to be applied to different portions in a solid oxide fuel cell, and prevents heat dissipation so as to allow high-efficiency power generation. <P>SOLUTION: A fuel cell stack 10 includes: a bottom end plate 38 on which a laminate 36 is placed; a load plate 46 that applies load to the laminate 36 along a laminate direction; and a fuel cell holding section 44 that is arranged between the load plate 46 and the laminate 36 and has a composite layer of alumina fiber and vermiculite. The fuel cell holding section 44 has: a first holding portion 44a that corresponds to a membrane electrode assembly 20 and applies load to sandwiching portions 35 in the laminate direction; and a second holding portion 44b that applies load to reactant gas supply portions 37 in the laminate direction.
