<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce background light in an optical analysis technique for detecting and analyzing light from light emitting particles dispersed into a sample solution and moving at random by using an optical system of a confocal microscope or a multiphoton microscope. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical analysis technique, excitation light composed of a predetermined polarization component is applied to an optical detection area in the optical system of the microscope, the intensity of the polarization component in a direction vertical to a polarization direction of the excitation light in light from the optical detection area and the intensity of the polarization component in the direction vertical to the polarization direction of the excitation light detected by an optical detection part is used as the intensity of detection light to execute analysis. Since the polarization direction of the excitation light is vertical to that of the detection light, the intensity of background light caused by a component of the optical system in the detection light is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
