<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent any mixture of air in cooling sea water. <P>SOLUTION: A frictional resistance reduction type ship which supplies air to a bottom of a hull, and reduces the friction resistance between the hull and sea water by the force of bubbles includes a sea chest 420 for sucking sea water provided in a ship bottom of a stern part of the hull, a first sea water pump 440 for sucking sea water from the sea chest 420, and a cooling system for cooling a main engine by using sea water supplied from the first sea water pump 440. The sea chest 420 has a first chamber 422 in which sea water sucked in the sea chest 420 flows in from a first sea water passage port 426a. First air vent ports 431, 432 are formed in a ceiling 422a of the first chamber 422. The first sea water pump 440 sucks sea water from a sea water suction port 441a arranged at the position lower than the first sea water passage port 426a in the first chamber 422.
