The device (16) has a drive shaft (20) of a drive (15) and an output shaft (24) i.e. steering column, connected to two cords (21, 22) for transmitting assist torque. One of the cords is wound on the drive shaft along rotational direction of the drive shaft while the other cord is unwound on a drive axle. The former cord is unwound on the output shaft and the latter cord is wound on the output shaft, and vice versa take place in another rotational direction of the drive shaft, which is opposite to the former rotational direction during winding operations.
