The present invention relates to a straightening device (1) having two arms (3, 4) which are mounted in a pivotable manner on one another and between which hair/fibres (2) is/are pulled through for straightening purposes. It is essential to the invention here that the straightening device (1) has, on at least one arm (3, 4), at least one oscillating straightening element (5, 6), which oscillates such that, when the hair/fibres (2) is/are being pulled through, at least some individual locations of the hair/fibres (2) are repeatedly straightened. This makes it possible to achieve an effective straightening result which does not adversely affect the hair/fibres.
