The internal combustion engine has a combustion motor (10) and an exhaust line (14) for discharging exhaust gas from the combustion motor. A fresh gas line (12) is provided for supplying fresh gas to the combustion motor. An exhaust gas turbocharger is provided with a turbine (22) that is integrated into the exhaust line. A compressor (28) is integrated into the fresh gas line and with an exhaust gas recirculation system that recirculates exhaust gas from the exhaust line into the fresh gas line. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine.
