ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrical connector assembly that has less ground contacts than known connector assemblies.

SOLUTION: An electrical connector receptacle assembly (106) comprises an interposer (110) having a side surface (114) and an array (118) of electrical contacts (120) exposed along the side surface. The electrical contacts are located within a contact region (128) that extends along the side surface and configured to engage an electronic module (102) mounted over the contact region. A shielding matrix (130) includes a shield wall (127) that extends along the side surface and separates the contact region into shielded sub-regions (244). The shield wall includes a conductive material and is electrically coupled to the interposer. At least one electrical contact is located within each shielded sub-region. The shield wall extends between adjacent electrical contacts to shield the adjacent electrical contacts from electromagnetic interference.
