<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer film suitable for sealing containers (e.g., containers used for food packaging), and a method of forming the film. <P>SOLUTION: The film is particularly suitable for sealing containers formed of polylactic acids (PLA). The multilayer film includes: (a) a substrate that includes a polymeric base layer; and (b) on the substrate, a heat seal layer containing a PLA homopolymer or a copolymer. The heat seal layer further includes an adhesion promoter dispersed therein, or alternatively the substrate further includes the adhesion promoter in a layer on a surface of the polymeric base layer between and adjacent to the base layer and the heat seal layer.
