The invention relates to the population security providing field, namely to providing security of population consuming energy from centralized sources.The method for providing security of population consists in determining the indicators of state of the system for energy supply of population, their processing by a special algorithm, whereby each block of indicators is assigned numerical values and is determined their average arithmetical value, is determined the magnitude of the correction factor, which is multiplied by the average arithmetical value by the indicator units. According to the obtained result is evaluated the level of security: normal - up to 2 points, pre-crisis - from 2 to 5 points, crisis - more than 5 points, and are taken the necessary measures to increase it. The indicator unit consists of a heat supply unit, an electric and thermal energy production unit, an electric energy distribution unit, an electric energy import unit, an ecological unit and a consumer unit.
