THE INVENTION DISCLOSES THE USAGE OF ALKYL ESTERS OF SHORT CARBON CHAIN LENGTH FATTY ACIDS AS A POUR POINT DEPRESSANT. ALKYL ESTERS OF CAPRYLIC ACID (C8), CAPRIC ACID (C10), MYRISTIC ACID (C14), PALMITIC ACID (C16), STEARIC ACID (C18) AND OLEIC ACID (C18:1) RESPECTIVELY WITH METHANOL, ETHANOL, ISOPROPANOL, N-BUTANOL, 2-BUTANOL AND ISO-BUTANOL. THE SAID ALKYL ESTERS HAVE DISPLAY LOW POUR POINT THAT CAN BE USED AS A POUR POINT DEPRESSANT IN BIODIESEL. THE MIXTURES OF THE SAID ALKYL ESTERS ALSO DISPLAY LOW POUR POINT. THE SAID ALKYL ESTERS CAN BE PRODUCED VIA ACID CATALYSED DIRECT ESTERIFICATION OF RESPECTIVE FATTY ACIDS WITH ALCOHOLS OR FRACTIONATION OF THE RESPECTIVE ALKYL ESTERS OF PALM OIL OR PALM KERNEL OIL. THIS INVENTION ALSO DISCLOSES THAT PETROLEUM FRACTIONS WHEN ADDED INTO BIOFUEL ARE ABLE TO REDUCE THE POUR POINT OF THE SAID FUEL. BESIDES THAT, THE INVENTION DISCLOSES THE EFFECT OF UNSATURATION IN THE SAID BIOFUEL ON THE POUR POINT DEPRESSANT ACTIVITY OF ONE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE ADDITIVE WHEREIN THE ADDITIVE IS A VISCOUS CONCENTRATE OF POLYALKYL METHACRYLATE IN A BIODEGRADABLE CARRIER OIL AVAILABLE UNDER TRADEMARK VISCOPLEX � 10-305. |
